Making the most of Fremantle’s Opportunities

This is an important moment in history for the Fremantle region. With changed land use and lifestyles, there are currently more potential redevelopment sites in the area than in perhaps the last 50 years.

The City of Fremantle has recognised this situation as both a challenge and an opportunity. If the planning challenges can be met, with true big-picture thinking, these redeveloped precincts could help create a much improved Fremantle, more sensitive to the needs of its inhabitants and the demands of the environment.

This kind of sustainable development is central to the State Government's vision for the future, a vision which is applied by its land development agency, LandCorp.

In the Fremantle area, LandCorp has already demonstrated an ability to work cooperatively with the City of Fremantle and its residents, notably in the creation of new plans for the sustainable redevelopment of Leighton.

Given that very successful collaboration, the City considered LandCorp to be a strong candidate for an ongoing partnership in land development, and in early 2004, after substantial discussions, the two parties entered into a formal memorandum of understanding.
